Well this shoot was just fun. I met the H Family for a portrait session in the Hill Country, one of my very favorite places in the world. And, to my delight, we started out with a little celebration of Movember. Mom, Dad, and all 4 kids were ready to sport their staches (only one was real… but which one?). Then, after a quick shave, we got down to business. The fall colors, the smiles, and the brave kiddos (it was COLD ya’ll) made for a delightful afternoon. Thanks H Family!
Well 2015 is winding down and, like any year, it has been full of ups and downs. But one of the most wonderful “ups” of my 2015 was the birth of my little nephew. It was so fun to get to include him in my bro and sis-in-law’s family portraits. And of course we were in my very favorite place – the Texas Hill Country. I can’t get enough of these people, these trees, these hills. Glad that they will be coming with me into 2016 🙂
… you must start with a bit of fishing…
…then it’s time to play with sticks…
Perhaps find some rocks and walk around with them…
Get Barbie ready for the ballet…
… and end the day with a little target practice.
Am I right or am I right?
A couple of weekends ago, I spent a delightful Saturday with my friend Nancy at Hamilton Pool outside of Austin, TX. Ya’ll, this place was beautiful. I’ll let the photos speak for themselves…

The H Family lives in Texas too! Everybody comes back ya’ll… it’s true. This sweet family lived for a few years in the arctic lands of Minnesota. It’s so great to see them back amongst the hills and the cacti. And these brave kiddos were more than willing to run and play in the dust and the grass (while expertly dodging thorns and ant beds). Their boldness out in all that beauty made my job easy. Thanks for spending the morning with me in Boerne, H Family!
It’s funny what happens when you live somewhere your whole life – that place makes up the air you breathe. It seems totally normal, uninteresting, mundane. But when you leave, all of a sudden home becomes fascinating, interesting, worth talking about. During my years in St Louis, I tried to explain the beauty, nay the glory of my beloved Texas. I had a few enthusiastic listeners but they were outnumbered by the eye rollers (“you Texans“). But now that I am back in my home state, I am soaking in those things that seemed so mundane before. Here are just a few of the things that I have loved about Texas over the last couple of weeks…
The storms and views in the Hill Country:
And rodeo… miscellaneous:
The beautiful view of the Houston skyline from Buffalo Bayou:
The Kite Festival at Hermann Park:
Stay tuned. My love affair with my home state has only just begun…
So this post pretty much encompasses my favorite things: my family and the Texas Hill Country. These kiddos are still my favorite models and it was fun to photograph them in a place that is so special to me and my family. Even the horses and dogs joined in the fun!
